IoB (Internet of Bars) - A Conceptual Study @ Intel & LA Fund
About
The impact of the pandemic on the hospitality industry was particularly severe from early 2020 to 2022. According to the government's employment survey, the number of people employed in hotels, restaurants, and bars plummeted by 446,000 in March. The NRA estimates that the industry shed approximately 3 million jobs in the first three weeks of March 2020.
To address the effects of COVID-19, Intel and LA Fund collaboratively decided to conduct a comprehensive study aimed at transforming socialization into a safe, connected, efficient, and fun bar concept that aligns with the emerging trends of Hospitality 2.0. The study encompassed business model transformation methodology, innovation implementation, and technology use.
As part of this initiative, we introduced a new bar concept named IoB, focusing on interconnectivity. IoB featured the following:
Bar: In-person and robotic beverage production, with remote operation capabilities by staff.
Kitchen: In-person and robotic food production, in-house produce solutions, integration with cloud kitchens for an expanded menu, and reduction of back-of-house (BOH) area.
Automated sanitation of bathrooms and other areas, including improved air filtration and UV scanning.
I was responsible for designing and planning the infrastructure of IoB and developing the integration methodology. The study has become a cornerstone for the new generation of bars, restaurants, and clubs, enabling them to provide a safe environment and an innovative experience for their target audience.
